Myths and Truths

Myths and truths about Rio:
It's wide spread that Rio is a dangerous place, and sincerely, I agree! As any major, large metropolis, you gotta watch out. This is not a myth. Most of the problems are with small pick pockets, or small robberies, but it's still very unpleasant when that happens to you. My guess it that you have about 2% chance of having something stolen from you, if you don't take some measures. My advice is that, if you go out for partying, without locals, don't take anything of value. If you have a second (old) cell phone, better. And cameras, take it with you only if locals says it's ok. That's another tip - places vary a lot on how dangerous they are, and not so far a part. Jewelry and watches, forget it! I don't like to walk with a lot of cash around, so if you have a credit card with you, great. In Rio, you won't have any problems on using it. It's accepted almost everywhere. I would take about R$ 150,00 ($ 75.00) to R$ 200,00 ($ 100.00) in cash for spending on street boose, snacks, transport and so on. The remaining, in credit card.
