Samba

One thing that Rio is famous for, is the samba scene. First of, let me explain one small detail about this. There are basically three types of samba events.

- Escola de Samba (Samba School): You probably seen a bit of this type of samba on TV, since it´s world wide famous during carnival, but there are samba school events throughout the year. It's main musical characteristic is that it's loud, fast, the dances are cool and the places (schools) are huge.

Some parties of this kind listed here, are:

- Pagode Events: A more mellow type of samba, very popular in the suburbs. The parties are mixed with all kind of people and normally they vary the music types.

- Samba de Raiz Parties (Root Samba): A more classic type of samba, with great rhythms, melodies and accords. On these parties, you can get a real feel of the samba scene in Rio. Always with new artist presenting themselves along with the veterans. Normally these parties go along with a great feijoada (tipycal food/custom to "cariocas" (naturals from Rio) and Brazilians. Personally, this is my favorite kind of samba party and in Rio, there´s lots of them happening all the time.
